Reviews of USU website files are underway to ensure compliance with Section 508. Under Section 508 (29 U.S.C. '794 d), agencies must give disabled employees and members of the public access to information that is comparable to the access available to others.
The current phase of document testing will primarily affect Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat files that are publicly accessible from USU's website. Documents will be checked using Word and Acrobat in-application tools. Documents that do not pass accessibility checks will be required to be updated by the content author or department contact. Documents must pass accessibility checks (using in-application tools) at 100% to be published to the USU web site.
The USU webmaster will perform accessibility checks on files, and will notify department POCs as files need to be updated. A brief reference for testing and updating MS Word and Adobe Acrobat files to ensure they are fully accessible is available on onestop.usuhs.edu under the End-User Support Library. All files published to the USU website after March 1, 2014 must be fully accessible. Any files that do not pass accessibility checks after this date will not be published.
The USU web site is comprised of all centrally managed university pages as well as some resources not maintained by the USU webmaster (i.e. AFRRI, LRC, MedPix, CIM, several Centers, etc). The webmaster works in coordination with the Office of External Affairs to ensure that information located on this web site is accessible, accurate, consistent and up-to-date. The site content, navigation and design will continually evolve.
