The Uniformed Services University was strictly a School of Medicine when it opened its doors in 1976. Realizing the dire need for a uniquely trained cadre of advanced practice nurses, Congress chartered the Graduate School of Nursing seventeen years later. Today, both schools educate students to take on the challenges of uniformed medicine. With nearly 6,000 graduates, the USU alumni comprise a large percentage of medical and nurse corps leadership.
Free parking in the Department of the Interior’s Garage, on 18th Street, directly across the street from the main entrance to DAR Constitution Hall is provided for members of the faculty. The faculty processional forms in the C Street foyer at 10:00 a.m.; the processional begins promptly at 10:30 a.m.
Uniformed faculty members in the processional will wear their appropriate service dress uniform with ribbons: U.S. Army-Dress Blue with four-in-hand tie; U.S. Navy-Service Dress White; U.S. Air Force-Service Dress; and U.S. Public Health Service-Service Dress Blue. Civilian faculty wear academic regalia in the procession.
