MPH Research and Student Projects
Military Health Services Research Center (MHSRC)
The Military Health Services Research Center within HSA is the research arm of the division. The Center maintains access to large federal health care databases in the Military Health System (MHS) in the Department of Defense, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Access to data in the the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) within the Department of Veterans Affairs is potentially available also. Approximately half of the American population receives health care either directly delivered or paid for by one of these systems, and the resulting encounter information is available for research purposes.

- Comparison of C-section rates and outcomes between Direct Care and Purchased Care.
- Determination of the prevalence of obesity in adolescence.
- Financial feasibility of use of VA mail-out pharmacy to reduce costs of care for the MHS.
- Comparison of state and national emphases on bio-terrorism preparedness at the hospital level.
- Determination of prevalence of bone and soft tissue sarcomas in the MHS.
