Resistance phenotypes of novel Deinococcus radiodurans mutants

The possibility that extreme IR resistance in D. radiodurans is determined by novel genes involved in replication, repair and recombination has also been explored (Makarova et al., 2001). About 20 predicted genes of D. radiodurans, which were identified by transcriptional profiling following IR (15 kGy) as the most highly induced (Liu et al., 2003; Tanaka et al., 2004) have been disrupted, and the corresponding mutants have been characterized for IR resistance.
