Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program
The Division of Education currently offers attendance-based CME programs, and is in the process of creating CME offerings available for distance applications, including Web-based opportunities. Other programs in development include future video-teleconferencing (VTC)-based conferences which will include the potential for interactive conferencing and distance consultation.
Course offerings and descriptions, accreditation statements, information regarding accessing the programs, information regarding the process for obtaining CME, and registration information, where applicable, are included in the individual course descriptions.
The List of Offerings (Link) follows this introduction. Future offerings under consideration/development include Perinatal VTC Conferences, Preceptorship in Colposcopy (to include OB/GYN Nurse Practitioners and Family Practice providers), and other attendance-based programs. As these offerings are implemented, the site will be updated to include descriptions and CME information.

ADVANCED GYNECOLOGIC LAPAROSCOPY & HYSTEROSCOPY COURSE
at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland
DESCRIPTION:
This three-day course offers participants the opportunity to use state-of-the-art laparoscopic and hysteroscopic equipment. It provides knowledge on laparoscopic instrumentation and operative suite set-up, selection of patients, complications of laparoscopic surgery, and the management of them. At the end of this course, participants will be able to perform laparoscopic suturing, electrosurgery, stapling and knot tying and demonstrate a familiarity with each of the following operative procedures: laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy, oophorectomy, ovarian cystectomy, lysis of adhesions, salpingectomy, salpingostomy, and appendectomy. Perform hysteroscopic technique resection and endometrial ablation.

REGISTRATION:
There is no registration fee for this course. Each course is limited to 16 participants. USUHS does not provide travel funding or billeting. Confirmation of attendance will be made approximately three weeks prior to the course.

Course is offered twice per year – typically in the spring (March or April) and fall (September or October)
CME:
The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The number of hours to be awarded will be determined for the educational activity. Each physician should claim only those hours that he/she actually spent on the educational activity. These courses have been designated as Skills Level 2, which will document that the physician met all the specified learning objectives of the course.
The actual number of hours will be determined when the final program is developed. Past courses similarly formatted have been designated for approximately 18 – 20 hours.
INTERESTED IN ATTENDING:
An advance announcement with specifics regarding dates and registration information will be available through e-mail as an attachment, and will be available through the USUHS Department of OB/GYN web site. If you are interested, please e-mail Drs. Lockrow or Zahn, and you will be informed with the specifics when the advance announcement is available. There is a live animal laboratory to practice laparoscopic surgical skills. There will be approximately a $150.00 fee for future courses. CME credits are 16-18 hours.

This continuing medical education (CME) program is sponsored by the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), Bethesda, Maryland, through an educational grant to the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine from TAP Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Lake Forest, IL.
The topics to be included are based on core educational requirements, disease/management updates, military/readiness issues, and other areas including Primary Care. Other topics will also be addressed as requested by the audience or directed per the discretion of principal faculty based on recommendations by presenters or by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. All faculty providing presentations will be fully identified on each presentation, and full disclosure of any support or financial relationships between presenters and commercial entities will be made at the beginning of the presentation in accordance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and USUHS standards. Presentations are added to this site periodically, and previous presentations will be updated as necessary. Each presentation is estimated to require one hour to complete, including answering the post-test, which is required for CME.

The returned information will be recorded and CME certificates will be awarded at the end of the academic year. Certificates will likely be sent in August of each year.
