The Office for Affiliations and International Affairs (OAI) manages and oversees, to include serving as the focal point for review, coordination, evaluation, and negotiation, of all USU affiliation agreements at the University level to ensure that affiliation agreements are appropriately maintained, initiated, or updated to support the academic and research missions of the University and its schools, centers, institutes, or other subordinate organizations.

The Office of Affiliations and International Affairs serves as the USU President's representative in all matters facilitating University involvement in the integration of the National Capital Region (NCR), significantly contributing to the development of the Academic Health Center (AHC) with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). The Office serves as the liaison between the University and the Joint Task Force National Capital Region Medical (JTF CAPMED) providing recommendations and coordination as a voting member of the JTF Executive Board.

The Office of Affiliations and International Affairs provides management oversight for all international academic and scholarly programs and activities, to include coordination with the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)). The Office proposes and develops, and with the approval of the University President, establishes cooperative University agreements (memoranda of agreement or understanding) with international military medical institutions, in accordance with Department of Defense directions and guidance.
