Operational Emergency Medical Skills

  • August 13-23, 2012 (SOM Students)

Operational Emergency Medical Skills (FTX 201) is considered an advanced operational medicine coursed. It is designed to increase confidence and competence in providing medical aid in emergency trauma situations. Instruction is based on current science and actual experience specific to unique environments and resources of operational units. The goal of training students to save lives in a combat environment utilizes a combination of didactic lecture, simulation and mini-labs, live tissue training and scenario based ballistic wounding models to deliver a valuable experience melding the medical theory and science students have gained in their SOM preparation with the special needs of medical providers in a theater of war. OEMS addresses the mission of operational care, emergency medical care, remote medical care, prolonged transport care, unique military wounding and pre-hospital care with superior educational strategies.

FTX 201 - OEMS is not currently open to International Student Participants. Faculty applications must be submitted by July 1, 2012 for consideration. Faculty must be able to arrive at NNMC for in-processing by either July 20, 2012 (for the Advanced course) or August 10 (for the student course).
