Injury Prevention Research Laboratory

1. Preventing Lower-Extremity Injuries in Adolescent Soccer Players
A study of two injury prevention warm-up programs designed to affect risky movement patterns and establish the most effective program for 13-17yo soccer athletes. We are currently recruiting U14-U18 teams in the Bethesda/Rockville area.

2. Oral Glucosamine in the Treatment of Patellofemoral Pain: A Prospective Randomized Trial
A study to examine the effects of glucosamine/chondroitin sulfate along with standard physical therapy exercises on the symptoms of patellofemoral pain syndrome. We are no longer recruiting participants for this study and enrollment has closed.

3. JUMP-ACL: Epidemiology of Jump-Landing Movements and ACL Injury
A study to identify the role of movement patterns in causing ACL injury and gathering information on ways to prevent them. Eligible participants are incoming cadets and midshipmen at the US Naval, Military, and Air Force Academies. Enrollment ended this past summer. We are currently in the process of developing the next phase of assessment and intervention in this population.

4. Preventing Lower Extremity Injuries in Military Academies
A study to investigate the effectiveness of two types of physical warmups in preventing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury at the US Air Force and US Naval Academies.
