Among the medical education resources on the internet, Up To Date® is ubiquitous. While this is a reasonable resource for quick summaries, detailed information is often lacking. Up To Date ® is not complete, not always accurate, and often not peer-reviewed. Online resources that we recommend include the current practice guidelines published by the American College of Physicians, National Comprehensive Cancer Network, and American College of Cardiology.
The National Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine organization has collaborated with CASUS and Med-U to develop a series of online instructional internal medicine cases. All of the scenarios are case-based and cover common internal medicine scenarios with evidence-based instruction on the relevant topics.
Cases can be accessed here: http://med-u.instruct.eu/player/app/homepage.html Click on the link and go to register; create a username and passcode. Please use your "usuhs.mil" email account, because that identifies you as a USU student to the system. You will receive an email to your USU account with a confirmation link.
USU instructors were either lead or secondary authors for several of the cases, and we hope you will find the cases useful. Completion of five of these cases with discussion of one of them during a preceptor meeting will satisfy the "First Rotation Academic Exercise" requirement. Of course, you may complete as many of these as you wish.
