Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Practicum II
Course Number: PMH 72125
This course is designed to build upon advanced psychiatric nursing skills established during Clinical Practicum I. Under the guidance of a qualified preceptor, the student will display increased critical thinking skills demonstrated by their expected and actual outcomes of selected therapeutic interventions. Students will demonstrate their neurobiological knowledge by explaining aberrant patient based on anatomical location and brain function in order to recommend appropriate pharmacological agents to mitigate such behaviors. The clinical practice requirements are based on the expected competencies for the advanced practice nurse in psychiatric mental health nursing as outlined by the American Nurses Association (2006) and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (2003). Case study presentations and peer discussions via Blackboard are designed to assist the student with analyzing multiple variables in psychiatric illness by utilizing a problem-solving framework to determine optimal mental health care for individuals in military and federal health care settings.
