Profile

Dr. Nicole L. Achee is a Ph.D. Medical Entomologist within the Department of Preventive Medicine, Division of Tropical Public Health at the Uniformed Services University. She has over 15yrs experience planning, managing, implementing, analyzing and publishing vector behavior research. This research has included habitat management strategies, experimental hut studies and evaluation of chemical actions against mosquito vectors in the international settings of Belize, Mexico, Peru, Thailand, Suriname, Indonesia and Africa. Dr. Achee also serves as adjunct faculty within the Department of Entomology at Katsetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand and advisor to students in the Emerging Infectious Disease Program at USUHS.

Research

Main research interests are related to the epidemiology and control of arthropod-borne diseases including evaluation of vector ecology, management and control strategies, as well as disease risk modeling using GIS and remote sensing technologies. The principal investigator of a research program funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation focused on the development of a spatial repellent push-pull system to reduce mosquito vectors inside homes where they are most likely to feed on humans and transmit disease. She oversees a multi-national team of researchers in the USA, UK, Belize, Thailand, and Peru.
