James A. Naifeh, Ph.D.

Research Assistant Professor

Dr. Naifeh is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and a Scientist in the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress. Dr. Naifeh received his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder and his Ph.D. in clinical and disaster psychology from the University of South Dakota. He completed a clinical internship at the VA Maryland Health Care System/University of Maryland Psychology Consortium, and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Naifeh's research interests include methodological issues in the assessment of psychological trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), use of latent variable modeling techniques in understanding posttraumatic sequelae, and identification of mechanisms underlying trauma-related emotion dysregulation and the co-occurrence of PTSD and various health risk behaviors. Clinically, Dr. Naifeh has expertise in cognitive-behavioral treatments for anxiety and mood disorders. He has experience conducting empirically supported individual and group-based interventions with military veterans and civilians.
