Col Burkett is a Family Physician, Flight Surgeon, and holds both a regional and global special experience identifier as an Air Force International Health Specialist. Previously Col Burkett served as Chief of Global Health at Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) and then at Air Combat Command (ACC) and successively. Colonel Burkett completed his Family Medicine residency at Malcolm Grow USAF Medical Center and had tours in Incirlik, Turkey and Howard Air Base Panama where he was the Chief of the Medical Staff (SGH), responsible for clinical services delivery during the treaty transition in 1999. Subsequently he had clinical leadership positions at Charleston AFB, South Carolina and Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri. He is a flight surgeon and a board certified Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He has directed ACLS classes in Honduras, was medical staff on humanitarian missions to Zimbabwe and El Salvador, planned and led a mission to Haiti, and deployed as Air Force Detachment commander on CONTINUING PROMISE 2011. Dr Burkett continues in clinical care both for the Air Force and as a free clinic volunteer. He and wife Lisa married in 1990 and have three sons.
Dr Burkett's research interests are in the application of DoD health engagement activities in support of joint military objectives. Particularly he is interested in how military health engagements can be optimized to support both USG health diplomacy and national interests while still achieving security cooperation and sustainable positive impact to host nation health sector capacity.
